FAQs

What makes STart different from typical physical therapy?

Although we can go on and on here, we’ve narrowed it down to 3 things:

  1. Our approach: We combine PRI (postural restoration institute) breathing techniques in conjunction with sports performance and manual therapy to achieve optimal results.

  2. Attention to detail: We are constantly improving our skillset with continuing education courses and have regular weekly discussions amongst the team regarding your case. In that way, you are working with all of us even though you have your regular clinician or therapist.

  3. Client focused: One of our core values is Unreasonable Hospitality. This means we curate the entire experience around you to ensure that you have the most memorable experience while getting results.

How long is a session?

Prepare for 90 minutes for the first session. The initial session is that long because we want to be thorough. Follow up sessions are 55 minutes.

Is the membership required?

No, the membership is not required to continue working with us. You may choose to go session by session and pay the non-members rate. However, lasting results come from changing movement patterns which can take some time so it may be cost effective to go with the membership since it pays for itself after only sessions.

Do you take insurance?

No. This allows us to get you in and start your treatment without a physicians referral. This means saved time and not having to deal with getting a referral to start your rehab. We do provide receipts that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Call your insurance provider to find out if they will reimburse you for out-of-network physical therapy. Insurance plans vary greatly so contact your provider beforehand.

How should I dress?

Wear comfortable athletic clothes such as shorts, t-shirt, or sports bra with athletic shoes/sneakers. You can also bring other shoes that you frequently wear.

Do I need a prescription?

No. Direct access legislation under California law states patients are able to be evaluated and treated by a licensed physical therapist for up to 45 days or 12 visits without first obtaining a doctor’s prescription/referral. This means you can come in and start working towards progress immediately without wasting time.
